    Job description

    The University Union on the campus of Sacramento State is seeking to hire one student to serve as the primary point of contact for the Event Services Office. In this role you will work continually with faculty, staff, students, and the community to schedule meetings and events using event scheduling software.

    Conditions of Employment 

    This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

    UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

    Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

    Prerequisites

    Must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

    Work Schedule

    Shifts available Monday-Saturday. Schedule varies. 

    Additional Work Schedule

    Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Attention to detail and ability to be accurate as well as timely in completing work.
    • Demonstrated ability to continually maintain high standards of customer service.
    • Desire to work in a very fast paced office environment.
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Greet and direct customers entering the office.
    • Answer the main phone line and direct calls appropriately.
    • Manage the Online Personal Union Scheduler OPUS requests (online).
    • Oversee a shared email inbox and process or distribute communications.
    • Enter all basic information for meeting/event requests into software database.
    • Become familiar with basic event policies in order to distribute correct information.
    • Print, copy, file, and shred documents.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed either in an office environment with continuous contact with staff and patrons. Frequent contact with the campus community and the public.
