    Job description

    The WELL located on the Sacramento State University is seeking to hire one Recreational Therapy Attendant to add to the Recreational Therapy team. Our Recreational Therapy department provides accessible and inclusive recreation and leisure pursuits for participants and members at The WELL. We support a balanced and active lifestyle while incorporating wellness in all aspects to the daily lives of our members and participants in our programs. Our team of student staff, volunteers, and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist work together to provide inclusive and specialized recreation opportunities while also providing accommodations, ensuring access to the wide variety of services offered at The WELL. 

    Conditions of Employment

    This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

    UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

    Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

    Prerequisites

    Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

    Shifts available Monday-Saturday. Schedule varies. 

    Additional Work Schedule

    Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

    Compensation

    $17.15 per hour

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Strong public speaking skills.
    • Strong time management skills.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Desire to work as part of a team.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and written.
    • Ability to follow directions.
    • Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word & Excel).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • CPR and First Aid Certified (or able to get certification within 60 days of hire).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • RPTA/Kinesiology/Heath Science/Related Field Major or Minor.
    • Previous facilitation and leadership experience.
    • Previous experience providing adaptive recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.
    • Experience in Microsoft Excel.
    • Knowledge of the Therapeutic Recreation Process.
    • Experience in creating lesson and/or activity plans for groups of 10+ people.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Facilitation, set-up, breakdown, and monitoring of inclusive programs.
    • Coordinate, plan, and facilitate programs with fellow attendants.
    • Document and report appropriately in accordance with HIPAA standards.
    • Assist Recreational Therapy Student Supervisor and CTRS with volunteer recruitment and training.
    • Assist Recreational Therapy Student Supervisor and CTRS in the maintenance and inventory of all Recreational Therapy equipment.
    • Respond to injuries and emergencies; activate the emergency action plan as needed.
    • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
    • Effectively document participation counts, incident reports, and program evaluations.
    • Meet once a month with the Recreational Therapist for professional guidance and updates on scheduling and duties.
    • Communicate effectively with other staff, participants and spectators about Recreational Therapy events and services.
    • Monitor department email account throughout each business week.
    • Enforce policies and procedures which contribute to the development of a safe, professionally managed and well-organized Recreational Therapy program.
    • Be able to address customer service-related questions via customer service guidelines.
    • Foster professional standards among staff, including proper attire and program engagement.
    • Assist in survey/assessment implementation and tabulation where applicable.
    • Responsible for equipment inventory .
    • Work collaboratively with Recreational Therapy Student Supervisor, inclusion attendants, CTRS and other WELL staff to effectively run the various inclusive programs.
    • Ability to lead by example and represent the program in a positive manner.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed either in a gym or office environment or a combination of the two. Continuous contact with staff and patrons. Frequent contact with campus community and the public.
