    Job description

    The WELL on the campus of Sacramento State is seeking seasonal Event Services Attendants to work on an as-needed basis until mid-March 2027. Event Services Attendants play a critical role in providing an enjoyable experience for our event attendees, as well as the success of events held in our facility. Seasonal Event Services Attendants will assist in the operations of Hornet Pavilion for the 26-27 athletic season.

    The role will be a temporary position until mid-March 2027.

    Conditions of Employment

    Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

    UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

    Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript), or driver clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

    Prerequisites

    Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring) and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students.

    Varied schedule based on events, especially during evenings, Saturdays and some holidays.

    Additional Work Schedule

    Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).

    Compensation

    $16.90 per hour 

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service.
    • Desire to assist others and provide excellent customer service as an individual and as part of a team.
    • Demonstrated skill in working in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing work assignments, coordinating many tasks, and completing assignments with strict attention to detail. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direct supervision. 
    • Ability to provide concise, clear and accurate verbal and written communication to a diverse public and staff. 
    • Ability to assist with event setup/takedown - setting up tables/chairs, pipe and drape, stanchions, bleachers, and other event furniture.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and work alongside other staff members to accomplish tasks in the most efficient manner possible. 
    • Ability to work a varied schedule, which will include a significant number of nights and weekends. 
    • Ability to remain calm and handle situations professionally under pressure.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of safe working practices, including equipment safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours.
    • Ability to lift 40 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in the set-up and break-down of special events. 
    • CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred but not required.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work directly with the event supervisor before and after events to ensure proper equipment operation and room set up requirements. 
    • Ensure that all audio-visual equipment is accounted for and properly secured during and after each event. 
    • Ensure that all room furnishings and set-up equipment, including tables and chairs, are accounted for and properly secured before and after each event.
    • Work closely with other Event Services Attendants in the set-up, break-down, and management of WELL special events. 
    • Provide regular feedback to the Event Services Supervisor after all assigned events. 
    • Provide back-up support for general building operations functions. 
    • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents
    • Ensure guest, customer and staff safety.
    • Respond quickly and appropriately to guest requests, complaints, and inquiries.
    • Enforce facility policies. 

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds individually. Stand for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a  reasonable accommodation.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed either in a gym or conference center environment or event center or a combination of the above.  Continuous contact with staff and patrons. Frequent contact with campus community and the public.
