    Job description

    Young Adult Transition Instructor
    Location: Brookings, SD
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8a–4p (flexible as needed)

Support Young Adults as They Build Bright Futures

At ADVANCE, we offer opportunities for people to live life to the fullest. As a Young Adult Transition Instructor, you’ll be a daily source of support and guidance for students and youth with disabilities—helping them learn, grow, and thrive in their communities and workplaces.

If you’re driven to empower others, committed to advocacy, and passionate about direct support, we’d love to hear from you.

    What You’ll Do

In this hands-on role, you’ll be part of the Day Services team, providing direct support and training to young adults as they prepare for employment and greater independence. You’ll be the first to notice when someone needs help—and the first to celebrate their progress.

    You will:

    • Provide job exploration, work-based learning, and post-secondary counseling.

    • Teach workplace readiness, life skills, and self-advocacy strategies.

    • Support students in real-world work settings across the community.

    • Develop strong working relationships with students, families, schools, and agencies.

    • Assist with personal care, medication administration, and individual health needs.

    • Encourage participation in public resources and inclusive community activities.

    • Document student progress, behaviors, incidents, and team communication.

    • Advocate for student needs and inclusion in all aspects of life.

Why You’ll Love Working at ADVANCE

    • Person-centered mission that values every individual.

    • Daily opportunities to make a visible difference in students’ lives.

    • A supportive, collaborative work environment.

    • Professional training and growth opportunities.

    • Flexible, meaningful work within the community.

    What You Need to Succeed

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, Special Education, or related field preferred.

    • High school diploma or GED required.

    • Experience working with individuals with disabilities required.

    • Must be 21+ with a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

    • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

    • Comfortable with lifting up to 50 pounds, standing/walking throughout the day.

    • Able to handle high-pressure situations with calm and sound judgment.

    • Flexible schedule and willingness to work in various community settings.

    Additional Requirements

    • Must complete all ADVANCE-required trainings (e.g., orientation, medication administration, safety).

    • Ability to implement IEPs, complete assessments, and communicate with care teams.

    • Use of technology for documentation, email, and basic reporting.

    • Adherence to infection control and OSHA safety protocols.

    • Participation in team meetings, professional development, and agency initiatives.

    Join the ADVANCE Team

This is more than a job—it’s a chance to support young adults on their journey toward independence, connection, and success. Apply now and become an essential piece of the ADVANCE mission.
