Apprentice Diesel Technician

At Advantage Truck Group in Shrewsbury, we are hiring an Apprentice Diesel Technician to join our team.

This paid apprenticeship combines hands-on training, web-based instruction, and mentorship from experienced technicians. Upon successful completion of the 6-to-9-month program, you will transition into a full Technician role on our 2nd shift, equipped to perform preventative maintenance, system diagnostics, and repairs on trucks and heavy equipment.

Work Schedule

• Apprenticeship Period: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, plus a Saturday rotation
• Post-Apprenticeship (Full Technician): Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, plus a Saturday rotation

Compensation

• Apprenticeship Period: $21.00 per hour
• Post-Apprenticeship Rate: $25.25 per hour upon successful completion of the program and transition to 2nd shift
• Shift Differential: Additional +$5.00 per hour for working 2nd shift for an effective total rate of $30.25/hour

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect, test drive, and diagnose malfunctions in buses, trucks, and heavy equipment; read and interpret diagnostic test results; consult with customers on diagnostic findings.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, battery checks, lubrication); adjust and align wheels; repair or replace malfunctioning mechanical and electrical components.
• Safely raise trucks, buses, and heavy equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Test-drive vehicles post-repair to verify proper operation and safety.
• Complete all required web-based and classroom training sessions on or before assigned due dates.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required, Technical or Trade School certificate preferred.
• Current, valid driver’s license.
• Strong general mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
• High degree of reliability, trustworthiness, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.

Physical Requirements

• Constant Physical Activity: Standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Climbing: Ascending and descending stairs and ladders.
• Lifting: Frequently moving equipment and parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
