    Job Description:

    Registered Nurse – Full-Time

    Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool

    Schedule: Full-Time |Days

    Position Summary

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned patient care units while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel. Care is delivered in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.

    Essential Functions

    • Performs and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions, identify healthcare needs, and monitor treatment outcomes.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, organizational policies, and professional standards.
    • Monitors patient responses to medications and treatments and communicates significant findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to assigned nursing personnel to ensure safe, therapeutic, and high-quality patient care.
    • Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-management strategies.
    • Assists physicians and advanced practice providers with bedside procedures and prepares patients for diagnostic testing, procedures, and surgeries.
    • Reviews laboratory, diagnostic, and clinical data and communicates abnormal results according to established protocols.
    • Provides compassionate emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their support systems.
    • Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment through compliance with infection prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.
    • Documents patient care activities, assessments, interventions, outcomes, and communications accurately and timely in the medical record.
    • Participates in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and professional development activities.
    • Responds appropriately to emergent situations and collaborates with the healthcare team to provide timely interventions.
    • Floats to appropriate departments based on organizational needs, clinical competency, scope of practice, licensure, certifications, and training.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and modify care plans through critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
    • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards of care, and evidence-based practice.
    • Proficiency with electronic medical records, automated medication dispensing systems, and healthcare technologies.
    • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows-based applications.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge and skill in the use of clinical equipment, including intravenous therapy equipment, central line devices, pulse oximetry equipment, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
    • Strong clinical assessment, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make clinical decisions in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while remaining calm and professional during stressful situations.
    • Knowledge of medication administration practices, pharmacology principles, and patient safety standards.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
    • Commitment to patient rounding, continuous learning, and completion of required EKG training based on departmental requirements.
    • Ability to interpret EKG findings as required by patient population and assigned department.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Education
    • Associate Degree in Nursing required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

    Experience

    • One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
    • Licensure and Certifications
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply based on unit assignment, specialty area, patient population, or state regulations.

    $34.04 - $63.31
