Registered Nurse – Full-Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool
Schedule: Full-Time |Days
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned patient care units and managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel. Care is delivered in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.
Float Pool Differential: Additional $5.00 per hour

Essential Functions
- Performs and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments to identify healthcare needs and evaluate patient responses to treatment.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, organizational policies, and professional standards.
- Monitors patient responses to medications and treatments, communicating significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Provides leadership, oversight, and guidance to assigned nursing personnel to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, procedures, discharge instructions, and health management strategies.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Collaborates with physicians, ancillary departments, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and promote positive patient outcomes.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, and professional development opportunities.
- Floats to appropriate departments based on organizational needs, clinical competency, licensure, certifications, and demonstrated skills.
- Responds appropriately to changes in patient condition and emergency situations within the scope of licensure and competency.
- Contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of nursing services and healthcare operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and revise care plans using sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, clinical standards, and evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, automated medication dispensing systems, and healthcare technology.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows-based applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of patient care equipment, including IV therapy equipment, central line devices, pulse oximetry, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, multitasking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective while working in stressful or rapidly changing situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, physicians, healthcare professionals, and team members.
- Ability to interpret EKG rhythms and complete required EKG education based on patient population and departmental requirements.
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience
- One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Additional certifications may be required based on department assignment, specialty area, patient population, or state regulations.
