    Job Description:

    Regional Registered Nurse – Part-Time

    Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool

    Schedule: Part-Time/Nights

    Position Summary

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Regional Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across multiple patient care units and facilities while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel. Care is provided in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.

    Regional Float Pool Differential: Additional $10.00 per hour

    Essential Functions

    • Performs and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions, identify healthcare needs, and monitor treatment outcomes.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, organizational policies, and professional standards.
    • Monitors patient responses to medications, treatments, laboratory results, and diagnostic findings, communicating significant changes to appropriate healthcare providers.
    • Provides leadership, direction, and clinical guidance to assigned nursing personnel to ensure safe, therapeutic, and high-quality patient care.
    • Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-management strategies.
    • Assists physicians and advanced practice providers with bedside procedures and prepares patients for diagnostic testing, procedures, and surgical interventions.
    • Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their support systems while promoting a compassionate patient care environment.
    • Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment through adherence to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.
    • Documents patient assessments, interventions, outcomes, and communications accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
    • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice activities, research efforts, and professional development opportunities.
    • Responds appropriately to emergency situations, providing timely nursing interventions and collaborating with the healthcare team to stabilize patients.
    • Floats to assigned departments and facilities based on organizational needs, competencies, credentials, scope of practice, and patient care requirements.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and modify care plans using sound clinical judgment and critical thinking.
    • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards of care, evidence-based practices, and medication administration processes.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make clinical decisions in complex patient care situations.
    • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems, automated medication dispensing systems, and healthcare technologies.
    • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows-based applications.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge and skill in the use of patient care equipment, including intravenous therapy equipment, central line devices, pulse oximetry equipment, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
    • Strong clinical assessment, communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining professionalism in stressful and rapidly changing situations.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, healthcare professionals, and team members.
    • Commitment to patient rounding, required EKG education, and ongoing professional development.
    • Ability to float to appropriate departments based on clinical competency, scope of practice, and organizational needs.

    Education

    • Associate Degree in Nursing required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

    Experience

    • One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.

    Licensure and Certifications

    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply based on department assignment, specialty, patient population, facility, or state regulations.
