Aerospike is powering the next generation of real-time, massive-scale applications—and we need an exceptional Director of Engineering to build the gateway to it all. You will own the vision, architecture, and execution for how thousands of developers and enterprise teams interact with, pay for, and observe the Aerospike Cloud Platform.

This isn't just about managing code; it’s about shaping the entire developer journey across our multi-cloud, multi-tenant ecosystem. You will lead the charge on everything from lightning-fast UI/API experiences to complex usage-based monetization and real-time telemetry pipelines handling massive data flows.

To foster strong alignment and execution, Bay Area–based leaders are expected in-office Tuesday through Thursday.

We need a high-octane strategic leader who loves big technical challenges, thrives on building high-impact teams, and stays close enough to the tech to drive serious architectural authority. Partnering directly with executive leaders in Product, Design, Finance, and Infrastructure, you will transform complex, distributed database capabilities into an effortless, intuitive, and wildly reliable cloud service.

What You’ll Do

• Build & Scale a World-Class Org: Empower, mentor, and grow a premier organization of engineering managers, technical leads, and full-stack/frontend engineers. Drive a high-velocity culture rooted in innovation, autonomy, and delivery.
• Revolutionize the Customer Experience: Define the multi-year vision for our developer consoles, APIs, and user-facing workflows—ensuring every interaction with Aerospike Cloud is fast, friction-free, and delightful.
• Architect the Core Business Engine (BLT):
• • Monetization & Usage: Spearhead the architectural evolution of our high-volume billing engines, real-time usage tracking, and multi-cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, GCP, Azure, Stripe).
  • Licensing & Entitlements: Build bulletproof, multi-tenant entitlement systems and feature-gating frameworks designed for global enterprise scale.
  • Telemetry & Observability: Drive the strategy for deep, real-time observability (metrics, logs, traces) that turns billions of platform events into actionable insights for both our engineers and customers.
• Drive Technical Excellence: Serve as the ultimate bar-raiser for microservices architecture, API design, and modern frontend systems. Keep the tech stack cutting-edge while eliminating complexity.
• Align Tech with Business Growth: Translate big-picture enterprise strategy into clear, executable technical roadmaps alongside Product, Revenue, and Executive Leadership.
• Own Production Reliability: Establish non-negotiable standards for billing precision, sub-second interface performance, and enterprise-grade SLA availability in a 24/7/365 cloud environment.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years scaling customer-facing SaaS, PaaS, or cloud infrastructure platforms at serious velocity.
• 4+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record of managing managers, scaling teams, and leading through technical leads.
• Domain Powerhouse: Deep expertise in architecting cloud monetization engines (metered billing, marketplace integrations) and high-throughput telemetry/observability platforms (OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Prometheus).
• Deep Technical DNA: Hands-on foundation in modern web stacks (React, TypeScript), scalable API design (REST, GraphQL), and cloud-native infrastructure (Kubernetes, Go, multi-cloud platforms).
• Executive Presence & Business Acumen: A clear, compelling communicator who seamlessly connects deep technical architecture to revenue strategy, product execution, and executive goals.
• Battle-Tested Operational Ownership: Proven experience running high-availability, mission-critical production systems where downtime or inaccuracy is not an option.

Nice to Have

• Experience building developer consoles, control planes, or management interfaces for NoSQL databases, data platforms, or high-throughput infrastructure.
• Direct experience leading engineering through periods of rapid scaling, enterprise transformations, or major cloud platform expansions.
• Hands-on familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or technologies like Temporal and Node.js.
• Familiarity with distributed systems or high-scale databases.

Salary Range: $272,000 – $350,000
(Actual compensation will be based on experience, location, and other relevant factors.)
