GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Asst. Director and Senior Chief Engineer, the Plant Operating Technician II performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties for the Facilities Services Department. Individual would be on-call evenings and weekends to give direction to other maintenance people in the facility as required by the Asst. Director or Senior Chief Engineer .
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Three (3) years of trade school required.
Lock Smith Certified
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (1) years’ experience as a Plant Operator in a similar sized health care institution in engineering discipline – qualified operator of boiler and chiller equipment required.
If performing other duties as Lock Smith mechanic must have a minimum of five (1) years experience as a Mechanic I or equivalent experience in an lock smith setting required.

- 5% Constructs, finishes, installs, maintains and repairs equipment, systems and facilities related to any craft or combination of same, using power and hand tools and other necessary equipment. (E)
- 5% Performs a variety of other semi-skilled and skilled work in various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, electrical work, sheet metal work, masonry, machinist work, etc. (E)
- 5% Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, installs and diagnoses malfunction of HVAC equipment, sterilizers, laundry and dietary equipment, sprinkler and standpipe systems, ice makers and refrigeration equipment, electrical system and other plant and specialty equipment. (E)
- 5% Assists in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs and reports major problems to Plant Operations Manager and/or Campus Facilities Manager. (E)
- 5% Operates hot water boilers, steam boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling units, water softeners, compressors, medical gas system, alarms and emergency generators to insure the comfort and safety of patients, staff, and visitors. (E)
- 5% Responds to emergency problems in the facility and makes emergency repairs as needed. (E)
- 3% Identifies system failure and troubleshoots plant equipment in detail to restore to operating or contain problem. (E)
- 3% Maintain shops, mechanical spaces, patient areas, etc., in a clean safe manner. (E)
- 3% Maintains the systems, equipment and facilities, is a clean safe operating condition in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and department policy. (E)
