Mechanical Design Engineer (Product Design)

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join our Loughborough team to support our activities within the clean energy and advanced technology sector. 

You will play a key role in the mechanical design and development of innovative products, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture. Working closely with development and manufacturing teams, you will be responsible for creating robust engineering solutions, detailed CAD models, and technical documentation to support the delivery of high-quality products.

• Experience Level: Junior to mid (2-5 YOE)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
• Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation
• Support product development activities from concept, prototyping, and testing through to production
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
• Participate in design reviews and implement engineering improvements where required
• Support prototype build, assembly, and validation activities
• Manage design changes and maintain accurate engineering records and documentation
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and deliver project objectives

Required Skills:

• Experience using SolidWorks in a professional engineering environment
• Strong mechanical design and CAD modelling skills
• Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• 2–4 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role
• Experience supporting products through design and development activities

Desirable Skills:

• Experience within clean energy, automotive, aerospace, or advanced technology environments
• Knowledge of prototyping and product testing processes
• Understanding of product lifecycle management and engineering change control
• Experience working within a fast-paced R&D or product development environment
• Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes
