Role of an SPC

A Student Progress Coordinator (SPC) is an experienced Altius Mentor who takes on additional leadership responsibilities to support mentor quality, mentor satisfaction, student satisfaction, and student MCAT success. SPCs work closely with their assigned mentors to monitor student progress, identify concerns and root issues, develop effective interventions, and help mentors provide the support students need to remain adherent to the Altius program, prioritize their MCAT preparation, and make meaningful progress toward their MCAT goals.

SPCs provide an additional layer of support—not a replacement for the student’s primary mentor—through mentor training and development, performance feedback, student-progress monitoring, and targeted intervention. When additional support is needed, SPCs may provide secondary support directly to students through calls, texts, emails, comments, meetings, or shadowing 1-on-1 mentoring sessions.

SPCs monitor key aspects of student progress, including 1-on-1 mentoring, quality SATS completion, FLE Analysis completion, and classroom attendance, helping ensure program adherence concerns are identified early, appropriate support is provided, and necessary follow-up occurs.

Responsibilities:

• Availability for up to 5 additional hours per week (not to exceed 100 hours from Sept 2026 - June 30, 2027) to to fulfill SPC leadership responsibilities. (Hours adjusted for SPCs hired to start in January 2027)
• This includes but is not limited to:
  • Supervise and support a team of 5–10 Altius Mentors
  • Attend weekly/biweekly SPC Training Meetings with Student Progress leadership on Mondays at 7:00 pm MDT
  • Meet regularly with assigned mentors to provide coaching, encouragement, and ongoing mentor development
  • Review mentors’ SPR Notes and students’ SATS to monitor progress, identify concerns, and evaluate the mentor's diagnostic abilities and intervention effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate SPC Notes documenting SPC's concerns,  intervention recommendations, and follow-up plans
  • Provide direct intervention support by meeting with struggling students and/or their mentors when additional support is needed
  • Assist with mentor performance evaluations and communicate significant concerns or support needs to Student Progress leadership
  • Collaborate with Student Progress leadership to identify solutions and improve mentor and student support

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the Altius curriculum and strong mastery of MCAT content
  • Hiring priority will be given to mentors who have demonstrated strong commitment to their students, effective communication, reliability, initiative, and the ability to fulfill their responsibilities with little to no supervision.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Moderate computer skills, including experience with Google Docs and Zoom
• Ability to coach, support, and develop other mentors
• Desire to find solutions and help others succeed
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Willingness to take on the additional responsibility and accountability associated with an SPC leadership role
