    Job description

    Full-Time Faculty in Accounting

Alvernia University’s Header School of Business invites applications for a full-time, one-year renewable faculty position in Accounting beginning Spring 2027 or Fall 2027, as negotiated. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment that includes access to University health benefits and other employee benefits in accordance with applicable University plans and policies. The appointment is renewable annually subject to satisfactory performance, institutional need, and applicable University policies.

The Header School of Business is experiencing strong enrollment and growth in its academic programs, industry relationships, and community partnerships. We are seeking an experienced accounting professional and educator who wants to bring real-world expertise into the classroom, make a meaningful impact on students, and help shape the continued development of Accounting at Alvernia.

This position is primarily focused on teaching, advising, student development, professional engagement, and service. A traditional academic research agenda is not required. We are looking for a colleague who is collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities and opportunities continue to evolve.

At this time we are only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the U.S. and we are not offering sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status) either now or in the future.

    Position Expectations

This is an in-person faculty position based at Alvernia University’s Reading campus. Faculty are expected to maintain an active on-campus presence and contribute to the academic, service, and community life of the University.

Teaching assignments may include in-person, online, and hybrid courses based on program needs. This is not a remote faculty position.

We value colleagues who build strong relationships with students and coworkers and who are interested in being part of the broader life of the School and University. Alvernia hosts student, recruitment, professional, and community events throughout the year, including some evening and weekend opportunities, and we welcome faculty participation when appropriate.

    Teaching Areas

Teaching assignments will be based on program needs and the successful candidate’s areas of expertise. Courses may include introductory and intermediate financial accounting, managerial and cost accounting, advanced accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, forensic accounting, and related undergraduate or graduate accounting and business courses.

    Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

    • Teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses as assigned and bring current professional accounting knowledge and practice into the classroom.

    • Advise and mentor students in their academic and professional development, including preparation for internships, certifications, and careers in accounting.

    • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, continuous improvement, and the Header School of Business’s ACBSP accreditation and reaffirmation processes.

    • Contribute to the continued development of Accounting programs and curricula.

    • Support experiential learning, employer engagement, and relationships with the accounting profession.

    • Maintain appropriate professional engagement and currency within the accounting field.

    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and external partners.

    • Contribute to School and University service, recruitment, student engagement, and other shared initiatives.

Faculty members who choose to engage in scholarship may do so consistent with applicable University policies and opportunities, but scholarship is not a primary expectation of this appointment.

    Required Qualifications

    Candidates must have:

    • A master’s degree in Accounting, an MBA, or a master’s degree in a closely related business field from an accredited institution.

    • CPA credential and/or substantial professional accounting experience appropriate to the position.

    • Demonstrated expertise in accounting practice.

    • Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, mentoring, and student development.

    • Ability to contribute to curriculum development, assessment, continuous improvement, and accreditation activities.

    • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially in a growing and evolving academic environment.

    • Adaptability, initiative, and a constructive approach to changing priorities and emerging opportunities.

    • Ability to contribute to the mission and values of Alvernia University.

    Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

    • CPA credential in active or good standing.

    • Significant professional experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, accounting information systems, forensic accounting, or another relevant area.

    • Previous college-level teaching experience, including experience with in-person, online, or hybrid instruction.

    • Experience mentoring students or early-career accounting professionals.

    • Strong connections to the accounting profession and regional employers.

    • Experience with ACBSP or other business accreditation, assessment, or continuous improvement processes.

    • Experience developing partnerships with employers, professional organizations, or community organizations.

    Work Authorization

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and throughout employment. Alvernia University is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

    Application Materials

    Applicants should submit:

    • A cover letter describing their interest in the position and relevant qualifications.

    • Curriculum vitae or professional résumé.

    • Statement of teaching philosophy.

    • A list of three professional references with contact information.

A research statement is not required. Applicants are encouraged to use their cover letter to describe how their professional experience would contribute to teaching, student development, and the Accounting program.

For full consideration, applicants should submit all required materials by October 15, 2026. Applications received after October 15 will continue to be reviewed, and the search will remain open until the position is filled.
