    DENTAL BILLING SPECIALIST

    POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

    To support the mission, vision, and values of Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. A Billing Specialist is responsible for all functions of billing processes to include review of the claim, patient communication, and staff training.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Assist billing manager with claims management as follows:
      • Ensure that insurance is active and correctly ordered on claims
      • Coding and diagnosis verification
      • Ensure that treatments are charged at the correct rate
      • Ensure that all procedures requiring prior authorization have documentation of preauthorization on file
      • Assist with denials (calling insurance, correcting coding, communicating with providers, etc.)
      • Assist with collecting past due balances on accounts.
      • Assist with patient and insurance refunds
      • Work with patients that do not understand their bills
      • Work claims in hold or denied claims
      • Review missing slips daily
    • Responds to patient’s inquiries and researches billing questions in collaboration with the Practice Manager.
    • Complete special projects for Practice Manager as needed

    Working Environment /Physical Activities:

    • Requires long periods of time sitting while on the telephone and/or doing computer work
    • Requires sufficient near vision to be able to read documents and computer screen
    • Essential to have ability to use routine office equipment such as computer, printer, copier, scanner and telephone
    • Essential to have ability to hear routine conversations
    • Essential to have ability to comprehend both oral and written communications
    • HIPPA Classification: Unrestricted Access: A workforce member with unrestricted access will have full access to patient’s protected health information, including the patient’s entire medical record, for patient care purposes

    Job Qualifications:

    • Minimum 24 months of dental billing/coding, preferred
    • GED/High School Diploma required
    • Must be at least 18 years of age to meet insurance liability requirements
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with patients, staff members, insurance entities and others
    • Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work flexible hours to meet job requirements
    • Presents self in a professional manner, dress and actions
    • BI-lingual skills preferred
