Job Purpose
The Buyer is responsible for procuring and managing the raw materials and packaging required for assigned areas. This position creates, expedites, and tracks purchase orders to support on-time delivery and scheduled production.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, review, track, and maintain purchase orders through closure; communicate shortages and provide visibility into potential supply interruptions.
- Use the ERP system proficiently to place orders and generate reports; maintain appropriate inventory levels by researching aged and excess materials.
- Professionally interact with customers on purchasing activities
- Serve as a liaison among customers, suppliers, and internal departments to support purchasing activities and resolve supply-related issues.
- Coordinate freight for all purchase orders as needed
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve purchasing, inventory, and supply-chain efficiency.
- Performs other duties as directed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
- Purchasing experience is preferred, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using an ERP system or other purchasing and inventory software.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize as needed
- Demonstrated reliability, a strong work ethic, and effective organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong problem solving, research, data analysis and documentation skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with employees and customers in a professional manner
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Physical Requirements
This job operates in an office environment but may require exposure to manufacturing plant conditions. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
