Security Officer / X-Ray Screeners Cargo Officer

Objective
To ensure commitment and dedication to the highest standards of security control to prevent the carriage of all unauthorized items and or goods that present a direct security threat on Air Niugini aircrafts.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Maintain the integrity of the Sterile Areas by conducting physical searches prior to opening the cargo and Charter terminals’ screening points.
- Operate the Cargo and Charter Terminal X-Ray equipment in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
- To ensure that all cargo, mail supplies are screened to achieve a high degree of satisfaction that the cargo, are not a danger for carriage on aircraft.
- Screen all unaccompanied baggage to confirm the consignment does not contain any weapon, explosive or any other item that presents a threat to Aviation Security.
- Screen all charter passengers and their checked-in and carry-on baggage and where applicable conduct physical search to ensure all items that may be a threat to the aircraft and passengers is/are removed and confiscated.
- To ensure that all consignments that contain items which fall under the Dangerous Goods category are identified, declared and correctly labelled.
- Open and conduct physical searches on all consignments of suspicious nature.
- Ensure all international freights accepted from Regulated Air Cargo Agents (RACAs) and Known Shippers are checked for appropriate packaging and documentation for acceptance and secured until uplifted.
- Ensure all freight coming from Unknown Shippers are 100% screened and secured until uplift.
- Conduct physical searches of all cargo that exceeds the technical size limits of the screening equipment.
- Responsible for correct testing and calibration of all screening equipment.
- Immediately respond to any call for assistance in matters of security related to the protection of customers, staff and company property/assets at any given time.
- Actively participate in counter measures directed at resolving unlawful interference, sabotage, bomb threats and/or any situation that represents a direct threat to the security of aircraft, crews and passengers.
- Challenge any unauthorised person and or staff without appropriate passes and take the appropriate actions where necessary.
- Conduct general patrols and surveillance of the Charter and Cargo terminals to deter and detect any anomalies.
- Report any security incidents, occurrences and matters to the immediate supervisor as soon as is practicable.
- Carry out any other duties as directed by Security Management.
Qualification, Skills / Experience required.
- Minimum Grade 12 Certificate, with credit passes in Mathematics and English, or an equivalent qualification.
- Successfully completed a recognized/certified Security Screening Training Course.
- Previous aviation-related training or experience will be highly regarded.
- Must have prior exposure to security critical areas and be appropriately trained to a level of security awareness sufficient to understand the importance of maintaining standards of security control measures whilst providing customer-friendly services.
