Position Summary
APIC Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Technician to lead the installation, programming, troubleshooting, testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional environments. This position ensures all work complies with applicable codes, standards (such as NFPA 72), and manufacturer requirements, while maintaining a high standard of quality and customer service. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of hands-on experience, relevant certifications, and a proven track record of delivering reliable fire safety solutions. You will work independently on complex projects while also supporting and mentoring junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Configuration
- Install conduit, wire, fire alarm panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and related hardware
- Program and configure fire alarm systems based on engineered drawings and system requirements
- Coordinate with electricians, general contractors, and project managers to ensure timely completion of installations
- Perform system startup and initial commissioning procedures
- Ensure proper integration with building infrastructure and fire safety systems
- Lead installation teams on complex or large-scale projects
Service & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair faults in existing fire alarm systems, including wiring, device, and panel-level issues
- Replace defective components and update system programming as needed
- Respond to emergency service calls during and outside of regular business hours as required
- Perform root cause analysis on system failures and implement preventive measures
- Maintain service records and document all troubleshooting and repairs
- Mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting methodology and best practices
Inspection & Testing
- Perform comprehensive functional and acceptance testing of newly installed or existing fire alarm systems
- Conduct inspections according to NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, and local AHJ requirements
- Complete inspection forms, deficiency reports, and customer documentation accurately and promptly
- Document test results and prepare detailed redline drawings
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Provide inspection reports and recommendations to clients
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure that all work complies with NFPA, NEC, IBC, and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements
- Follow all safety practices, including proper use of PPE, fall protection, and lockout/tagout procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and company vehicle
- Report safety hazards and near-misses to supervisors
- Stay current on code changes and regulatory updates
- Train junior staff on safety protocols and compliance requirements
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of time, work completed, parts used, and materials ordered
- Complete and submit service reports, test results, and documentation to the office team or supervisor
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, building personnel, and team members
- Update system documentation and maintain equipment databases
- Prepare invoices and service documentation for billing purposes
- Prepare technical proposals and scope-of-work documents
Customer Service & Communication
- Interact professionally with clients and building personnel
- Explain technical findings and recommendations in clear, non-technical language
- Coordinate service schedules and respond to customer inquiries promptly
- Build positive customer relationships and represent APIC Solutions professionally
- Provide technical training to clients on system operations and maintenance
- Serve as primary contact for complex customer issues
Leadership & Mentoring
- Lead and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance on installation and troubleshooting
- Train apprentice technicians on fire alarm systems and best practices
- Share technical expertise to build team competency
- Contribute to process improvements and workflow optimization
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and job site inspections
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in fire alarm system installation, service, inspection, or maintenance
- Demonstrated expertise and proven track record with complex fire alarm projects
- Leadership or mentoring experience preferred
Certifications (Required)
- NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems (required)
- Edwards EST Certified with FireWorks Preferred (required)
- OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred)
- Manufacturer training/certification from major platforms
Technical Skills
- Ability to read blueprints, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, and installation manuals
- Proficient in the use of multimeters, hand tools, and power tools
- Advanced familiarity with laptop-based programming software and electronic test equipment
- Strong knowledge of low voltage wiring and code requirements
- Understanding of fire alarm system architecture and signal flow
- Ability to program and configure systems independently

- Building Management Systems (BMS) integration experience
