Electrical Design Engineer | Milwaukee, WI

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team in Milwaukee, WI as an Electrical Design Engineer. You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and implementation of advanced electrical power distribution and conversion systems. This position owns major electrical subsystems, drives design documentation and reviews, supports cross-functional collaboration, mentors early‑career engineers, and ensures solutions meet safety, manufacturability, compliance, and performance expectations across the full product lifecycle. This role requires travel to southern Minnesota as needed, but less than 20% travel is expected. 

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will:

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies
• Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners
• Contribute to projects that impact communities in the greater Milwaukee metro
• Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required
• 5–8 years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, and generators
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting
• Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions
• Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, and effective in fast‑paced environments
• Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar tools
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
• Ability to travel up to 20% 
• Experience in research or new product development environments
• NFPA 70E Certification preferred
• Knowledge of UL standards including UL1008, UL508A, UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, UL9540, and others
• Understanding of NFPA 70, 101, 99, and related codes preferred
• Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems preferred
• Capable of working independently and as a team member

ESTIMATED PAY RANGE

Engineer I: $40.45–$46.52/hour

Engineer II: $44.14–$50.76/hour

Engineer III: $47.83–$55.00/hour

Senior Engineer: $51.51–$59.24/hour

Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and alignment with role expectations. Paid overtime may be available.
