Are you dynamic and detail-oriented? We are seeking an Import Specialist to manage end-to-end import operations for both sea freight and air freight shipments.
Role Purpose:
To manage the end-to-end import process, working closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure goods are imported on time, in full compliance, and within budget, while handling documentation, freight bookings, tracking, and resolving issues to keep operations running smoothly.
What you'll do:
- Coordinate sea freight and air freight imports, including bookings, documentation, and tracking.
- Monitor vessel and flight schedules and liaise with freight forwarders, shipping line and other transport agencies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
- Prepare, review, and submit import documentation (Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading/AWB, Certificate of Origin, HS codes classification, COO, insurance).
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade laws, and company policies (e.g., sanctions, restricted party screening, dual-use items if applicable).
- Support internal/external audits; remediate findings.
- Monitor transport and clearance costs, demurrage/detention risks, and negotiate recoveries/waivers where possible.
- Support Finance with landed cost calculations, accruals, and payment processing for duties/fees and claims recovery with suppliers or insurance company.
- Analyse pasts import data, current market trends and inventory levels to provide recommendations to the Managing Director on the quantity and frequency of product orders.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business, or a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in import logistics, trade compliance, or supply chain coordination.
Knowledge and Technical Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of sea and air freight operations, HS classification, Incoterms, customs clearance, and trade documentation.
- Experience liaising with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers.
Behavioral Competencies:
- Excellent attention to details and communication skills.
- Organisational skills.
