Overview
The Data Operations Support Lead is a senior technical and operational role within Global Data Operations at Gallagher Sri Lanka. The role helps keep enterprise production data platforms stable, reliable, and performing well, with a focus on insurance and financial data warehouse environments. You’ll act as the main escalation point for complex incidents, coordinate daily operational activity across teams, and support improvements that strengthen monitoring, automation, data governance, and service health.
How you'll make an impact
- Own the data operations intake process, including incident logging, triage, communication, prioritisation, and follow-up actions.
- Act as the main escalation point for complex data pipeline, integration, and platform issues.
- Coordinate day-to-day production support activity with Data Engineering, DBAs, BI, Infrastructure, and Security teams.
- Help improve reliability, scalability, observability, and operational governance across enterprise data platforms.
- Support data integrity, transformation controls, lineage visibility, metadata management, and monitoring improvements.
- Review and help improve access controls, permissions, and data security standards.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, solution design reviews, and operational readiness checks for new data products.
- Prepare monthly service reports covering SLAs, KPIs, incidents, changes, and service health.
- Maintain clear documentation for pipelines, processes, dependencies, and workflows.
- Support SOX, GDPR, and internal audit activity, including evidence preparation, remediation, and control validation.
- Mentor support engineers and share practical guidance to improve team capability.
- Take part in system integrations, data modernisation, and platform upgrades.
About you
- 8+ years of experience in data operations, production support, or a similar data-focused support role.
- Hands-on experience with ETL and ELT pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes, and complex data transformations.
- Experience supporting recurring production data workflows in a time-sensitive environment.
- Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, Astronomer (Airflow), Automic Automation, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and Azure DevOps.
- Experience managing incident intake, prioritisation, escalation, and cross-functional coordination.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior colleagues.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make sound escalation decisions.
- Familiarity with access controls, data security practices, and data governance requirements.
- Experience supporting SOX, GDPR, and audit requests.
- Willingness and ability to work US business hours on an assigned US time zone schedule.
