Job Responsibilities: 

1. Animal Care and Treatment:

· Conduct comprehensive examinations of animals to diagnose illnesses, injuries, or conditions.

· Develop and implement treatment plans for animals, including prescribing medications, performing surgeries, and providing therapies.

· Administer vaccinations, conduct regular health check-ups, and provide preventive care to maintain the health of animals.

· Perform diagnostic procedures, such as blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds, and other imaging techniques.

· Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure proper animal handling and care during examinations and procedures.

· Monitor and evaluate the progress of animal patients, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and provide ongoing care.

· Works with the owners on plans for developing and growing the business.

· Helps to develop new programs and processes that meet our clients and patients changing needs.

· Provides compassionate care to patients.

1. Client Communication and Consultation:

· Communicate effectively with pet owners, explaining medical diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care measures.

· Answer client inquiries, provide advice on animal care, behavior, and nutrition, and address any concerns or questions.

· Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of animal patients and ensure proper documentation of treatments, medications, and procedures.

· Educate clients on disease prevention, health maintenance, and responsible pet ownership.

1. Surgical Procedures:

· Perform surgical procedures, such as spaying, neutering, tumor removals, dental surgeries, and orthopedic procedures.

· Ensure adherence to surgical protocols, sterile techniques, and safety standards during surgeries.

· Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals during surgical procedures, as well as during post-operative recovery.

· Safely performs anesthetic and surgical procedures.

· Performs physical examinations using preliminary data provided by the veterinary technicians; diagnoses physical condition and presents diagnostic and treatment alternatives to the client being sensitive to their emotional and well financial needs.

· Interprets the results of laboratory procedures and determines the appropriate protocol based on the results; reads radiographs and interprets EKGs and EEGs.

· Prescribes medications in accordance with manufacturers label instructions and uses. Understands common side-effects and common drug interactions with other medications.

· Promptly, accurately and legibly updates client records in support of the SOAP reporting method.

· Understands and carries out treatment orders from other veterinarians; makes necessary changes in treatment plan when diagnostic results support the decision to do so.

· Collects blood samples using venipuncture per hospital protocol.

· Performs all in-hospital lab work including fecal, CBC, UA, HW, Felv, FIV, giardia, parvo, cytology and others using applicable lab machines.

· Prepares samples to be sent out--special panels, special tests and histopathology.

· Utilizes appropriate pre-anesthetic, anesthetic and post-operative protocols to manage pain, decrease patient anxiety and minimize complications

· Administers medications, oral and injectable.

· Produces effective radiographs using proper patient positioning and restraint, with accurate measurements and machine settings. 

· Gives SQ, IM and IV injections.

1. Collaboration and Teamwork:

· Work collaboratively with veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff to provide comprehensive veterinary care.

· Consult and collaborate with specialists or refer cases when necessary.

· Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and professional development activities.

· Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other team members.

· Can display tact and respect with team members even when busy or hectic.

· Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in an animal care field.

· Promotes cooperative working environment among team members; understands the value of teamwork; shows enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice function as a unit.

· Communicates objectives, motivates team members, builds, and maintains morale; maintains core values and standards of care.

· Delivers in-house medical training to the support staff when asked to do so.

Education and Experience

• Veterinarian degree (DVM) from accredited college or university. ABVP preferred
• D.V.M. licensed in Florida
• D.E.A licensed in Florida
• Experience as a D.V.M. in a practice is desirable, but not required.
• DEA registration must be maintained
• Liability Insurance
• A minimum of two years of previous ER experience or four years of clinical practice experience

• Experience with managing critical and advanced medicine cases.
• Flexibility to be available at various shifts/times
• Must demonstrate desire to continue learning in veterinary care and participate in leading staff training

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Significant continuing education achievements, beyond licensing requirements.
• Ability to recognize that teamwork is essential for a quality practice; ability to work as a team member as well as a doctor.
• Working knowledge of and interest in the business aspect of veterinary practice.
• Willingness to stay after hours or work extra hours when needed.
• Interest in marketing and growth of the practice. 

· Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients.

· Perform basic computer skills, type 50 words per minute.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs).  Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
• Working conditions:  May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
