Are you an expert engineering professional who enjoys developing people, solving sophisticated problems and finding innovative ways to improve asset performance?

We’re looking for a Maintenance Lead to join our Utilities team at AstraZeneca in Macclesfield. You’ll lead activities related to the upkeep and servicing of assets, helping us deliver safe, reliable and high-performing engineering systems while improving skills throughout the team.

Here is a chance to combine your engineering proficiency with people leadership. You’ll mentor and support engineering staff, technical specialists, and those coordinating engineering efforts, develop asset care strategies and help embed maintenance excellence across the engineering team.

What you’ll do:

As our Maintenance Lead, you’ll:

• Lead the delivery of asset and energy performance across the Utilities department
• Develop and implement effective strategies for asset maintenance and repair
• Lead, mentor and develop engineers, technicians and engineering coordinators
• Apply your engineering expertise to improve asset availability, performance and output quality
• Ensure maintenance activities are effectively planned, resourced and delivered
• Mentor teams in maintenance, equipment management, and problem-solving methodologies
• Identify equipment risks, including obsolescence, and develop appropriate mitigation
• Use asset performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
• Lead ongoing improvement efforts, including equipment upgrades, replacement and optimisation
• Help embed Lean principles and standardised ways of working
• Support audits and regulatory inspections within your area of responsibility
• Lead engineering change controls associated with improvement activities
• Work with internal teams, technical specialists and external service providers to drive performance
• Maintain high standards concerning safety, GxP regulations, and engineering protocols
• Handle relevant budgets, resources, suppliers and service agreements efficiently.

Lead and nurture your team:

People leadership is an important part of this role. You will guide a team that includes Engineering Technicians, an Engineering Coordinator and junior engineers working on maintenance and continuous improvement activities.

We’ll look to you to create an environment where people can perform at their best. You’ll set clear goals, coach and develop your team, support individual development and encourage open communication and collaboration.

Drive maintenance perfection:

You’ll take a proactive approach to asset care, ensuring we have the right maintenance strategies, resources and capabilities in place to support reliable performance.

You’ll bring together technical knowledge, performance data and engineering procedure to understand potential failure mechanisms, improve maintenance effectiveness and optimise asset performance. You’ll also help strengthen capability across the wider department by coaching colleagues in asset care and maintenance methodologies.

What we are searching for:

We are seeking someone with:

• A relevant engineering degree or recognised engineering training route, such as an apprenticeship
• Significant shown experience of assets and asset management practices within a highly regulated environment
• Strong engineering and maintenance knowledge, capable of contributing technical expertise across asset performance and equipment upkeep
• Experience coaching and supporting others in engineering or maintenance activities
• An understanding of SHE, GxP and engineering compliance requirements
• Using data and performance measures to support maintenance and asset care decisions
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across different teams and fields.

• Chartered or working towards Chartership with an appropriate engineering institution.
