Position Summary: This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, minimizes workplace risks and accidents, promotes environmental protection, and fosters a culture of safety and sustainability. Working closely with employees, management, and regulatory agencies, the manager helps create and maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible operating environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards. Monitor changes in legislation and update policies accordingly. In addition to ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements. Implement strategies to minimize the organization's environmental impact.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for employees and managers on safety and environmental topics to foster awareness.
- Supports investigations into workplace accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections and audits to identify and address deficiencies. Track and report progress on corrective actions Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety and environmental hazards. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and improve overall safety and sustainability.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. Ensure employees are trained and prepared for emergency situations.
- Prepare and submit required safety and environmental reports to regulatory agencies. Stay informed about changes in reporting requirements.
- Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among employees. Encourage reporting of safety concerns and provide recognition for safe behavior.
- Manage the safety and environmental budget, including procurement of necessary equipment and resources. Ensure that suppliers and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards and requirements.
- Maintain accurate records related to safety and environmental compliance, incidents, inspections, and training. Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of safety and environmental programs. Identify areas for improvement and implement best practices.
- The company operates a twenty-four(24) hour business. Therefore, you may be rostered to work shifts, which may change from time to time.
- Performs other reasonable duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
- A minimum of five years in environmental safety role Extensive knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and best practices.
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Environmental Professional and OSHA
- Proficiency in using safety and environmental management software and tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
