Position: Data Integrations Engineer (onsite with some hybrid flexibility, Florissant, MO)

Position Summary
The Augustine Institute seeks a Data Integrations Engineer to develop and maintain the integrations and data pipelines connecting the platforms that support our operations, including finance, fundraising, media distribution, and education. This role builds and maintains integration solutions and data pipelines, documents the data contracts between systems, and coordinates with the organization’s data architect to ensure new development aligns with established architecture and design patterns. The position offers room to grow into end-to-end API design and ownership, preparing our data products for AI use, and migrating our data platform to a modern infrastructure.
Specific duties are listed below, but may not be all-inclusive.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, and document the data contracts between them
- Remediate and replace point-to-point vendor integrations with documented, maintainable solutions
- Develop and maintain the ETL and ELT pipelines supporting reporting and analytics
- Develop code for internal APIs, with support from our back-end developer
- Monitor integration and pipeline health, diagnose failures, and resolve them
- Provide integration support during new platform implementations, including assessment of how a new system connects to the existing environment
- Enable business users to build their own automations within defined governance standards
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional experience developing data pipelines, integrations, or backend services
- SQL proficiency, plus working proficiency in common coding and scripting languages
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining REST and JSON API integrations, including pagination, rate limiting, webhooks, and error handling
- Working knowledge of API authentication and security, including API keys, Basic and Bearer auth, OAuth 2.0, and HMAC signing
- Working knowledge of idempotency and retry safety in integration design, including correct handling of duplicate message delivery, retries, and dead letter queues
- Understanding of the tradeoffs between event-driven and synchronous integration patterns, and between batch polling and publish/subscribe models
- Working knowledge of the OpenAPI specification (3.0+)
- Familiarity with large-data principles such as partitioning, replication, and incremental loads
- Familiarity with data cataloging, classification, lineage, and quality control
- Experience with ETL or ELT development, and with version control using Git and GitHub, including pull request workflows
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with platforms in use at the Augustine Institute, such as NetSuite, HubSpot, Domo, Oracle, Salesforce, or with comparable financial and CRM systems
- Experience with TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience with workflow automation or iPaaS platforms such as n8n or Workato, or with data platforms such as Airbyte, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric
- Experience with Parquet, dbt, medallion (bronze / silver / gold) data architecture, or client-side versus server-side analytics collection
Skills and Abilities
- Hands-on software development capability; familiarity with low-code automation tools such as n8n is expected, but proficiency limited to those platforms is not sufficient for this position
- Ability to assess and remediate accumulated technical debt across undocumented integrations
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and to coordinate across departments
