The Level C Welder is responsible for fitting and welding mild-steel components using the MIG welding process. This position requires consistent workmanship, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to produce welds that meet visual and structural quality expectations. Expectations for the candidate are as follows:
- Must be able to produce a visually and structurally acceptable weld bead on a consistent basis
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping around the welding shop
- Must be able to safely use hand tools, electric tools, and power equipment, including grinders, vertical band saws, and hydraulic presses. Must show the ability to stand for long periods of time in one area (at least 9 to 10 hours per day)
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. as required by assigned work
- Must check quality standards in workmanship including but not limited to weld penetration and appearance, placement of welded pieces in conjunction with blueprint, overall satisfactory operation of machine once completed
- Must be able to receive direction, feedback, and corrective instruction from the supervisor and apply that guidance to assigned work
- Must be able to comply with all required hours asked to work including overtime/weekends for jobs to meet ship dates
- Must be able to work effectively with others while also performing assigned tasks with limited supervision. This includes identifying problems, diagnosing issues, and contributing to practical solutions
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
The individual must have the following basic requirements:
- 2 years minimum experience in the welding industry. This can be on the job experience and/or vocational/trade school experience
- High school diploma or GED candidates PREFERRED:
- English speaking, reading and writing
- Math skills at a minimum of a 10th grade level
- Basic computer skills
The individual must have a sufficient working knowledge of the following:
- Previous welding experience using 0.045” hard wire with 75/25 gas on mild steel
- Ability to read and interpret basic welding blueprints
- Must be able to read a tape measure to the 1/16 of an inch
- Ability to perform basic diagnoses of welding machines and troubleshoot welder
