About the job opportunity
We are currently looking for our Group Transmission & FTTX Engineering lead, to provide strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of Transmission and FTTX (such as Backhauling, terrestrial and submarine Backbone, GPON, IPRAN) across the Axian Telecom.
Mission:
The main mission will be to provide leadership and vision to the transmission and FTTx strategies across the Axian Telecom: from the last miles to the terrestrial and submarine backbone with a focus on fiber footprint, capacity, resilience & disaster recovery and IPification.
The mission will also be to define Transmission planning guidelines and to coordinate the high-level planning & masterplans with the different Axian’s subsidiaries.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
1 – Strategy & Plans
Prepare and maintain the transmission and FTTx guidelines handbook for Axian to define the best practices in term of design, capacity dimensioning and implementation; this will include, MW P2P/P2M, Metro fibre backhaul and backbone, Spectrum acquisition and utilization, IPRAN, DWDM, VSAT, Synchronization, Resilience, International connectivity and capacity,
To produce and maintain a 3-year strategic transmission expansion plan (incl. network design, CAPEX forecast, procurement timeline) supporting the business growth and its resiliency for each of the Axian Subsidiaries.
The plan shall be aligned with performance and redundancy requirements.
To perform all transmission planning activities for radio access and core transmission.
Coordinate with the supply chain to evaluate and define the products and vendors/partner landscape.
Own, Track and follow up the execution of the strategy & plans across Axian’s operations.
Ensure that the transmission team skills are up to the standard by Coordinating with the HR to identify the skill’s gaps and plan the right trainings.
2 – Partnership Management
To coordinate and supervise the different terrestrial or submarine consortiums or partnerships Axian and its subsidiaries are part of along with the Axian Group Submarine & International Capacity teams.
To identify and coordinate possible new consortiums and partnerships opportunities.
To supervise any capacity leases or IRUs purchase for Axian’s subsidiaries.
To support the B2B & Wholesales teams to resell capacity on existing infrastructures.
3 – database and change management process implementation
Harmonize and standardize transmission databases for Axian’s operations.
To maintain a centralized database will all transmission equipment, network configuration etc...
To monitor transmission capacity utilization.
To ensure that any change in the transmission network is reflected in the database.
4 – Capacity & Quality Optimization
To define all Transmission/FTTX network optimization routines and to coordinate their implementation.
To define all Transmission engineering guidelines and to coordinate their implementation.
To define all Transmission resilience guidelines and to coordinate their implementation.
To review system features and implement the selected features through the operation team.
To monitor the capacity and put in place the required expansion plans.
5 – CAPEX & OPEX planning and tracking
To ensure procurement activities deadlines are met and to support procurement activities for transmission equipment and capacity sourcing.
Provide technical leadership in the evaluation and selection of equipment, vendors, and contractors.
Ensure all engineering projects align with group strategy and deliver optimal network performance.
To implement Axian Telecom standard operating process for leased line or IRU commitments.
To optimize transmission plans according to Direct Costs, OPEX and CAPEX implications.
6 – Technology watch
To look into technical alternatives (new technology, other best practices from Axian’s subsidiaries) to achieve transmission requirements in a more efficient way and evaluate transmission innovation (such as 4G/5G backhauling in more rural areas).
Conduct ongoing research and development to stay ahead of emerging technologies in FTTx/GPON.
7- Qualification, Skills, Knowledge & Competencies:
10+ years’ experience leading teams in Transmission/FTTX Planning or Engineering
Master’s degree in Business Administration with Engineering background or MsC/Meng in Telecommunication, Computer Science or Electronics.
Cisco Certifications (CCNA/CCNP) is a plus
PMP Certification or equivalent is a plus.
6 Sigma Black Belt Certification is a plus.
Fluent both in English and French is mandatory
Excellent Understanding of Transmission and FTTX Technologies (TDM, SDH, ATM, DWDM, MW, Fiber, L2 & L3 Routing, GPON etc.)
Excellent understanding of Telco fixed and Mobile technologies: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, Civil Work, Transmission, Core, etc.
Excellent understanding of Telco IT architecture & components.
Excellent tracking & reporting skills.
Good understanding of basic finance and financial reporting.
Strong leadership skills essential to lead and engage as part of an entrepreneurial team.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of cultures and different types of expertise
Ability to actively make decisions in a promptly manner, always seeking positive results to employees and the organization.
Excellent verbal skills in order to manage different types of audiences
