POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy early career Electrical Power System Engineer (up to a level III) who already knows what a converter does and why a control loop can be unstable, and who wants to learn the rest on a program that is building real flight hardware for a commercial space station. You will own real work, with a senior engineer reviewing it, and the scope of what you own will grow as fast as you can carry it.

The Axiom Space Station power architecture is a regulated 120 V dual bus system: solar array regulation as the first bus forming stage, isolated conversion as the second, high voltage energy storage with charge and discharge regulation, secondary conversion to 120 V and 28 V, and protected load distribution through latching current limiters, all of it distributed across module boundaries and across berthing and docking interfaces. You will work inside that architecture on requirements, analysis, interface definition, supplier data, and test.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Draft and maintain electrical power requirements under the direction of a senior engineer, including verification methods and traceability in the program requirements management tool, and track TBD and open item closure.

• Build and run system models and analyses: power and energy budgets, load lists and load profiles, voltage drop and harness sizing, fault current and protection sizing calculations, efficiency and dissipation rollups, and basic transient studies.

• Support the development of interface control documents and power quality documentation, including data collection, table construction, consistency checking, and reconciliation of numbers across documents.

• Maintain the configuration data that the system runs on: equipment master lists, load databases, connector and harness data, and the version and change history behind them.

• Support supplier technical exchanges: prepare question sets, track answers and actions, review supplier data packages against the specification, and flag inconsistencies.

• Support laboratory and engineering model testing: test setup, instrumentation, execution support, data reduction, and test report drafting.

• Prepare material for SRR, PDR, CDR, Test Readiness Review, and Manufacturing Readiness Review, and support action closure.

• Grow toward ownership of a requirement set, an analysis area, and an interface, with mentorship from senior team members.

• Communicate progress, status, and issues honestly and early, including when something is not working.

• Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Level 2: 2 or more years of relevant experience, which may include internship, co-op, or research experience.
• Level 3: 5 or more years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Working knowledge of power electronics fundamentals: isolated and non-isolated DC to DC conversion, basic control loop and stability concepts, magnetics, and protection devices.
• Ability to build and run engineering calculations and models in MATLAB and Simulink, Python, Excel, or equivalent, and to explain the assumptions behind them.
• Laboratory competence with oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, programmable power supplies, and data acquisition.
• Clear technical writing. You will write documents that external organizations read, and the ability to write a precise sentence matters as much here as the ability to run a simulation.
• Curiosity, initiative, and the willingness to ask a question early rather than deliver a wrong answer late.
• Comfort working in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment where the answer is often not yet written down.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship, co-op, or project experience in spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other high reliability power systems.

• Hands on converter design, build, or test experience, including academic projects and competition teams.

• Exposure to requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, and to formal verification practice.

• Exposure to space power standards and practices, including SSP 30237, SSP 52051, or NASA-STD-4003.

• Exposure to EMC testing, grounding and bonding practice, or environmental test campaigns.

• Engineer in Training certification, or progress toward professional licensure.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

• This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access.
