Staff Accountant I

B. Riley Securities provides a full suite of investment banking, corporate finance, advisory, research, and sales and trading services. Research coverage spans a varied range of traditional industry sectors—including Consumer, Industrials, Financials, Technology, and additional cross sector opportunities. B. Riley is nationally recognized for its proprietary small cap equity research. Investment banking services include initial, secondary, and follow on offerings, institutional private placements, merger and acquisition (M&A) advisory, SPACs, and corporate restructuring.

We are seeking a full-time Staff Accountant I with a minimum of one-year experience to work with our Securities team.  The successful candidate will report directly to an Accounting Manager. The position entails assisting the accounting/finance department with month-end close, providing support in compiling financial information, and completing special projects. This is a hybrid role based in Memphis, TN.

 Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Maintain and prepare general ledger account reconciliations, analyze monthly account activity, and prepare related journal entries.
2. Prepare cash receipt entries for check deposit, wire, and ACH transactions.
3. Prepare journal entries for revenue recognition and coordinate with commissions team on direct cash revenue transactions.
4. Prepare bank and cash account reconciliations on a weekly basis, assemble and scan support documents, and research cash transactions to determine general ledger coding.
5. Assist with receivables and prepare accounts receivable reporting for associated business segments.
6. Assist with intercompany account reconciliations, update occupancy cost share allocations, and prepare related journal entries.
7. Assist with monthly reporting by generating system reports and reconciling inventory positions.
8. Assist with preparation and filing of state and local personal property tax reports.
9. Assist with preparation of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations by generating standard NetSuite reports and assembling support documentation.
10. Assist management with audits, research inquiries, prepare schedules, and generate reports.
11. Process assigned tasks timely and in accordance with daily requirements and monthly close schedule.
12. Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
13. Accomplish accounting department and organizational goals by completing tasks as needed.
14. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
2. Minimum one-year of relevant work experience in accounting.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; Excel and Outlook.
4. NetSuite experience is a plus.
5. Must be able to perform responsibilities as a team member.
6. Must possess a basic understanding of the general ledger close process and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
7. Self-starter with good communication skills; deadline oriented with good time management and organizational skills
