Requirements

• A relevant academic qualification.
• At least 10 years' experience in horticulture or agriculture.
• Proven experience managing a successful garden or agricultural operation at a senior level.
• The ability to lead a diverse team of approximately 70 employees with enthusiasm and respect.
• A genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
• Strong leadership, motivational, and team-building skills.
• Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
• Good computer literacy.
• Sound knowledge of fruit and vegetable production.
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and drainage.
• An understanding of the tourism industry and logistical planning.
• Proven experience in project and contract management.
• High energy, a positive attitude, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

As Head Gardener, you will be the driving force behind our garden operation. You will be responsible for inspiring your team, leading innovative projects, and ensuring that Babylonstoren's gardens continue to set new standards of excellence year after year.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and inspire the garden team to pursue excellence.
• Manage staff while supporting their growth and professional development.
• Ensure the optimal maintenance of garden and farm equipment.
• Develop and manage fertilisation and integrated pest management programmes.
• Plan, implement, and monitor irrigation systems to ensure optimal plant growth.
• Lead the development and implementation of new landscape and garden projects.
• Manage budgets responsibly and efficiently.
• Share your expertise through inspiring workshops and gardening presentations for visitors and staff.
