Baird is seeking a highly motivated and personable Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team, specializing in marine (nearshore), coastal, and hydraulic infrastructure projects. This role will enhance our existing expertise in planning, design, and implementation of ports, marine terminals, hydraulic structures, recreational marinas, waterfronts, coastal ecosystem restoration, and shoreline protection structures.

As the ideal candidate, you possess a solid technical foundation in geotechnical engineering and the ability to communicate complex interactions between earth, water, and structure.

What You Will Do

• Serve as a subject matter expert within multi-disciplinary, geographically distributed project teams.
• Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for marine (nearshore), coastal, and hydraulic infrastructure projects.
• Develop, manage, and supervise geotechnical and geophysical data acquisition campaigns.
• Prepare and review geotechnical work scopes, proposals, and engineering reports.
• Conduct independent quality assurance reviews of historical reports for siting ports and marine terminals.
• Assist in the development of plans and specifications.
• Oversee project delivery from conception to completion.
• Mentor and provide technical oversight for junior and mid-level engineers.
• Collaborate across multiple offices and time zones.
• Participate in proposal preparation and client presentations.

What You Will Bring

• M.Sc. or M.Eng. in Geotechnical Engineering (Ph.D. preferred).
• 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering for marine, coastal, or hydraulic infrastructure projects.
• P.E. or P.Eng. registration required (multi-state P.E. for riverine/hydraulic infrastructure projects is a plus).
• Expertise in soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, groundwater hydrology, and soil-structure interaction.
• Deep understanding of seismic stability, liquefaction, seepage, and ground improvement techniques.
• Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software such as gINT, APILE, LPILE, PYWALL, GeoStudio (SIGMA/W, SEEP/W, SLOPE/W), PLAXIS, FLAC, Slide, and Settle3.
• Working knowledge of marine geostructural engineering codes and standards.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
• Proven project management and leadership skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing competing deadlines.
• Valid U.S. passport and willingness to travel as needed.
