    Job description

    The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the accounting processes and the preparation of financial statements, including the integrity of information submitted by others.  Additionally, the Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing audit work papers, account analyses, and troubleshooting accounting software problems. This position requires a high degree of analytical ability with only general and limited supervision.  The position reviews financial statements for submission to the Controller. This position is responsible for troubleshooting accounting software problems and working with the IT Department for upgrades or special projects. The Senior Accountant is responsible for assuring the integrity of information submitted by others, before entering or posting to the accounting system. This position must oversee the accuracy and appropriateness of information before entry into the accounting system and must be able to instruct others and secure an understanding of complex or sensitive matters.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Completes the month-end close process by the Controller’s Month-End Close Schedule.
    • Consistently maintains GL with a high level of accuracy.
    • Independently completes duties as assigned.
    • Identifies trends and takes appropriate action (i.e. Conducts further analysis, notifies Controller, etc.).
    • Generates and submits monthly Journal Entries for approval
    • Compiles, files, and organizes monthly Journal Entries
    • Understand the healthcare revenue cycle
    • Prepares monthly journal entries to recognize patient service revenues
    • Runs monthly Revenue, Payments, Adjustments, AR and Encounter reports from NextGen
    • Assures that all GL activity is performed by GAAP
    • Prepares monthly accruals for missing AP invoices and tracks all prepaid expenses
    • Imports monthly revenue and adjustments into NextGen activity into Navision
    • Communicate regularly by providing the status of the month-end close
    • Requests information and expense details from various vendors to capture monthly expenses during month-end close
    • Prepares monthly trial balance and inserts comments explaining the reason for the variance
    • Analyses, reconciliations, and hoc reports are always accurate and on time.
    • Anticipates needs and takes a proactive approach.
    • Researches GAAP impact and develops additional reports to provide management with improved financial information.
    • Reviews monthly Trial Balance, including research and analysis of significant account variances with explanations
    • Prepares allocation schedules for various revenues
    • Analyzes significant account variances each month and prepares reclassification and adjusting journal entries as appropriate
    • Performs Operating Bank account reconciliation and various Balance Sheet account reconciliations each month
    • Provides audit support by completing the PBC list as requested and assists with fieldwork requests.
    • Acts as backup to Staff Accountant by processing cash receipts, updating daily cash files, and preparing bank deposits for couriers.
    • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller and CFO.
    • Provides significant analysis, reconciliations, and compliance reporting support as requested by the auditors during their fieldwork and BMS  annual financial audit
    • Assists in revising various policies and procedures.
    • Provides a policy and procedure manual for the HRSA technical visit.
    • Maintains files in an orderly manner, keeping files neat, and maintaining files in such a manner that others in the finance department find them useable.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field

    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

    • A CPA license is preferable.

    Experience:

    • Three to five years of previous accounting experience is necessary to fully understand general ledger, financial statement preparation, and account analysis.
    • Healthcare experience is highly preferred.
