Job Summary

Responsible to section, stain and mount tissue specimens in preparation for microscopic examination by the

Pathologist. Assists the Pathologist in making various examinations on submitted tissue specimens and

subsequent preparations. Performance of duties is in accordance with CLIA ’88 guidelines. Performs quality

control, quality assurance, maintenance and troubleshooting. Duties may also include clerical tasks, specimen

collection, and related laboratory services.

Minimum Requirements

Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program (within the last five years if not ASCP certified) OR Associate degree that includes 12 hours

in both biology and chemistry

OR

At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at minimum, includes 12 semester hours of both biology and chemistry and

1 year of documented clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last five years

Once eligible, must obtain HT certification within 1 year
