Position Title: MRI Technologist
Reports to: Radiology Manager
Position Goals
This job description for the MRI Technologist at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital provides criteria for evaluation in performance, attitude, and discipline. The MRI Technologist is responsible for providing magnetic resonance imaging procedures according to physicians’ orders and established protocols. This clinical position requires knowledge and experience in MRI technology, patient safety, and high-quality diagnostic imaging. The MRI Technologist will strive to provide proficient, competent care while maintaining the patient’s comfort, dignity, and rights.
Position Responsibilities
The MRI Technologist at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital will be responsible for:
- Operate MRI equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images according to physician orders and protocols.
- Screen patients for MRI safety, including implants, foreign bodies, and other contraindications.
- Obtain and document patient history, clinical indications, and MRI safety screening information.
- Proper position patients and explain procedures to ensure comfort, understanding, and cooperation.
- Monitor patients throughout examinations and respond appropriately to concerns or adverse reactions.
- Administer MRI contrast media as ordered, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Review images for quality and completeness, repeating or adjusting sequences as needed and work closely with radiologists and physicians to ensure diagnostic image quality.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Adhere to MRI safety standards, including appropriate screening and control of access to the MRI environment.
- Maintain awareness of the MRI magnetic field and ensure that only approved staff, equipment, and devices enter the MRI environment.
- Perform diagnostic X-ray examinations during periods of low MRI volume, as assigned by the Manager.
- Operate X-ray equipment and obtain high-quality diagnostic images according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Ensure proper positioning of patients for X-ray examinations to obtain accurate images while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
- Adhere to radiation safety standards and protocols to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
- Perform diagnostic X-ray examinations during periods of low MRI volume, as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation in electronic health systems.
- Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe MRI environment.
- Assist with inventory management of MRI supplies and contrast media.
- Maintain knowledge of MRI physics, anatomy, safety, and imaging protocols.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Position Requirements
The requirements for this role with Patients Emergency Room and Hospital are:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or approved MRI training program.
- Current ARRT certification and registration in Radiography and/or MRI, as applicable.
- Current Texas Medical Board (TMB) Medical Radiologic Technologist certification.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- Knowledge of MRI safety, patient positioning, imaging protocols, and quality assurance.
- Ability to perform diagnostic X-ray examinations during low MRI volume.
- Ability to administer MRI contrast media according to facility protocols and applicable scope-of-practice requirements.
- Maintains continuing education and professional development in MRI and radiology.
Preferred Experience/Certifications:
· 3-5 years of experience in MRI and X-Ray.
· Registered MRI Technologist.
