- Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to grow the Firm’s audit and assurance business, including audits, authority-related work, and investigative engagements.
- Plan and manage the Firm’s audit business, allocating resources effectively to ensure client deadlines are met.
- Review work performed within the Audit to ensure full compliance with quality control guidelines set by BDO International and ensure staff awareness of these requirements.
- Provide technical and work-management support to Audit staff.
- Assess audit staffing levels and make recommendations to Partners regarding recruitment, training, and performance management, including initiating recruitment where required.
- Negotiate fees with new and existing clients.
- Act as the Firm’s Centre of Excellence for audit matters, maintaining up-to-date technical and professional knowledge.
- Perform concurring reviews of financial statements, particularly for listed entities and audits with qualified opinions.
- Liaise with the Director of BDO Technology Advisory Limited regarding technology resources supporting the audit practice, including IT audit and staff/client IT needs.
- Represent the Firm as Audit Director, keeping Partners informed of market opportunities, competition, and audit-related developments.
- Take overall responsibility for audit quality on engagements and ensure appropriate audit opinions are issued.
- Ensure compliance with independence and ethical requirements on all audit engagements.
- Provide strategic direction to the audit department, collaborating with Partners and firm leadership to implement the Firm’s strategy while maintaining high audit quality standards.
- Lead and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring exceptional service delivery without compromising audit integrity or quality.
- Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning within the audit department.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes, industry trends, and emerging risks, ensuring ongoing compliance and effective audit risk management.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified member of a recognised professional accounting body such as ACCA, ACA/CA, CPA, or equivalent.
- Holding a Maltese Auditor’s Warrant / Practising Certificate.
- 10+ years’ experience in an external audit environment, with progressive responsibility.
- Proven experience managing audit engagements from planning through to completion and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of audit teams.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound professional judgement.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and client-relationship management skills.
- Fluency in English is essential
