Finish Excavator - Civil Construction

About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Finish Excavator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation
- Safely expose existing underground utilities
- Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines
- Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision
- Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance
- Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching)
- Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction
- Proven experience working around live utilities
- Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices
- Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings
- Valid driver’s license
- Ground disturbance certification
