Job Summary
FMI seeking a Refrasil / Silica Operator I to join our Silica Carbon Team. This role supports the manufacturing of advanced rayon and silica-based materials used in high-performance applications. The Operator will be responsible for safely operating production equipment, monitoring product quality, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to an efficient, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret work instructions, procedures, and specifications
- Process glass yarns, fibers, and cloth through various chemical and thermal operations
- Handle chemicals used in manufacturing processes, including acids, coatings, and treatment solutions, while following all safety procedures
- Operate and monitor leach lines, tank farms, and related support systems
- Perform high-temperature oven treatments and carbonization processes
- Set up, start up, and shut down production equipment safely and efficiently
- Monitor material flow and move products between production and warehouse areas
- Conduct quality inspections, including measuring, grading, and visual defect checks
- Prepare production reports, quality documentation, and maintain accurate logs.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and report mechanical issue.
- Operate textile machinery, including skeining, spooling, and winding equipment, and package finished goods
- Participate in team problem-solving activities and support continuous improvement initiatives
What We Need From You:
- High school diploma or GED required; 1+ year of manufacturing or related experience preferred
- Must be a U.S. Person, as defined under applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations, due to required access to export-controlled information.
- Experience with composites, textiles, or similar manufacturing processes is a plus
- Commitment to safety with the ability to follow work instructions, procedures, and requirements
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting, and production processes
- Strong attention to detail with basic math skills and a focus on quality and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Basic computer skills
Available Shifts:
- 6a to – 6p Monday through Thursday
