As we continue to grow, we are looking for a dedicated Supervisor, Clinical Documentation who supports our mission through adhering to and perpetuating coding best practices across the clinic organization. The Supervisor role is responsible for maintaining collaboration between market operations and clinical documentation coding that results in the provision of an efficient, effective, accurate market performance.
Operating Responsibilities
- Work closely with coding manager to maintain cooperative working relationships with coders, educators, providers, and market operational staff
- Ensure skills and competencies of staff are maintained
- Provide day-to-day management of team members, including time management, monitoring daily work assignments and performance metrics
- Monitor work daily to prospectively identify problems and potential backlogs; collaborating with coding manager to plan and implement necessary steps to mitigate impact
- Create and maintain workflow and documentation logs to answer questions and provide guidance addressing coding scenarios, processes, and operational workflows
- Participate in the development and successful implementation of new, updated and/or modified procedures
- Is proactive and encouraging; sharing knowledge and skills with others, including the provision of technical mentoring and coaching of team members where appropriate
- Actively monitors coder accuracy and identifies needs for education, training and opportunities for improvement
- Communicates coder performance and development needs to coding manger and works collaboratively to address and implement performance improvement support methods
- Track coder production and quality metrics, providing feedback to coding managers and initiates first level coaching support and appropriately escalates continual and sustained performance issues to coding manager
- Ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Specialized Knowledge and Skills

- Superior relationship and interpersonal skills with the ability to craft meaningful relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
- Proven leadership competency including the ability to motivate and develop teams and achieve results
- Prior experience leading a clinical documentation team preferred
- Experience with providing coding education in an outpatient environment preferred (Primary Care Practice highly preferred)
- Experience in conflict management and problem resolution
- Proficient with payer policies and guidelines
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (Athena, ECW, EPIC)
- Technology-savvy (Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook)
- A low ego and humility; an ability to gain trust through good communication and doing what you say you will do
Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Professional Coding Certification such as CPC, CCS, or CCS-P required; CRC would be a plus
