    About the Role
The ESOL Lead Instructor is a senior instructional leadership role at the heart of BCS's ESOL program. The position carries a direct teaching load of approximately 16 contact hours per week across multiple ESOL levels, combined with responsibility for supervising part-time ESOL instructors and owning student outcomes across the program. This is not primarily an administrative role — it is a role for an experienced educator who wants to lead instruction, develop other teachers, and make a measurable difference in students' lives. The Lead Instructor's focus is on what happens in the classroom and whether students are enrolling, persisting, progressing, and succeeding. This is a full-time, in-person role based at our Education Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and the Lead Instructor will be expected to adapt as program needs evolve.

    • Arrange substitute coverage for ESOL classes as needed

    • Participate in the hiring process for part time instructors

    • Manage performance issues with part time instructors

    Student Outcomes & Retention

    • Monitor student attendance patterns and work proactively with instructors to address attrition

    • Use student feedback and outcome data to identify areas for instructional improvement

    Administration

    • Collaborate with program staff to ensure students are pre- and post-tested using BEST Plus 3.0 and BEST Literacy

    • Coordinate testing schedules across ESOL classes and our integrated workforce training program

    Program Promotion

    • Serve as an ambassador for the ESOL program within the community

    • Build relationships with current students and encourage referrals and word-of-mouth enrollment

    • Participate in community events and partnerships that raise the program’s profile

    • Other duties as assigned.
