Summary
We are currently seeking a Senior Software Developer to join our Digital Software Development team, with a primary focus on mobile app development. This teammate will be a key contributor to the design, development, maintenance, and support of mobile experiences within our broader Digital ecosystem. The role will work closely with other developers, product partners, and business stakeholders in an agile enterprise environment to deliver high-quality, scalable mobile solutions that support our Guests and Teammates.
In this role, the Senior Software Developer will help build and enhance mobile applications using React Native and Expo, while also bringing an understanding of native mobile development concepts for iOS/Swift and Android. The ideal candidate will have several years of mobile app development experience and be comfortable participating in the full mobile software development lifecycle — from concept and design through development, testing, build, submission, app store approval, release, and ongoing support. This teammate should be experienced with mobile app build and release processes, able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners, and excited to contribute fresh ideas while helping maintain secure, reliable, and guest-focused applications.
This position is located at Buckle's headquarters in Kearney, Nebraska.

Application Development and Software Engineering
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain high-performing, scalable, and enterprise-grade applications, ranging from operational reporting solutions to mission-critical business systems.
- Lead application development efforts across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Analyze business and user requirements to ensure solutions effectively address business needs and deliver expected outcomes.
- Develop and maintain high-quality, secure, and maintainable application code using industry best practices and established design patterns.
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of new application features, enhancements, and system integrations.
- Prepare, coordinate, and support software releases, ensuring reliability, stability, and successful deployment of application components.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications while identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and user experience.
Architecture, Quality and Security
- Apply software engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural principles to ensure sustainable and maintainable solutions.
- Ensure application designs, development processes, and implementations comply with organizational security requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
- Leverage experience to proactively identify performance bottlenecks, scalability concerns, and functional challenges, providing effective solutions before they impact users or operations.
- Promote code quality through peer reviews, testing, documentation, and adherence to established development standards.
- Advocate for development best practices, performance optimization, accessibility, and secure coding standards.
DevOps, Automation and Process Improvement
- Contribute to the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated build, deployment, and release processes.
- Support and enhance Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environments to improve development efficiency and software quality.
- Identify opportunities to streamline development workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and implement process improvements that increase team productivity and reliability.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives by introducing new tools, technologies, and methodologies that support organizational and team objectives.
- Utilize and promote industry-standard development tools, including source control repositories, integrated development environments (IDEs), automated testing frameworks, and DevOps platforms.
Operational Excellence
- Participate in production support, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for critical incidents.
- Monitor application performance, stability, and user feedback following releases.
- Contribute to disaster recovery, business continuity, and application support strategies.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Collaborate effectively with developers, analysts, architects, project managers, UX/UI designers, QA teams, infrastructure teams, project stakeholders, and business partners to deliver successful technology solutions.
- Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous learning by sharing ideas, insights, and best practices.
- Take ownership of assigned applications, environments, and technical solutions, demonstrating accountability and commitment to long-term success.

Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise teammates within the software development team as business needs dictate. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Teammates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Teammates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Computer Science; and five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
