Intern Program Overview

Builders’ Internship Program provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience and an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry. Interns work on real business projects, contribute to organizational goals, and gain exposure to various areas of the company.

Throughout the program, interns have opportunities to connect with leaders and professionals across the organization, build a strong professional network, and learn from experienced colleagues. The program also includes professional development sessions, networking events, learning opportunities, and collaborative projects designed to enhance skills, broaden industry knowledge, and prepare interns for future career success.

Position Summary

The Claims Intern will gain hands-on experience and develop an understanding of commercial General Liability and Workers’ Compensation claims, as well as the fundamental principles of the claims function within the organization. This role provides an opportunity to explore the full lifecycle of a claim, from initial intake and investigation through evaluation, management, and final resolution.

Through structured training and meaningful on-the-job experiences, the Intern will begin by supporting the Claims Intake team and gaining exposure to the processes, systems, and tools used to efficiently manage new claims. The Intern will then have the opportunity to rotate through the Workers’ Compensation and General Liability Claims departments, gaining broader insight into claims handling and the various factors involved in evaluating and resolving claims.

Throughout the internship, the Intern will apply established claims guidelines, utilize relevant tools and systems, and develop critical skills in communication, organization, analysis, and problem-solving. This role also provides opportunities to collaborate with experienced claims professionals and gain firsthand knowledge of the insurance industry.

The Intern will have the opportunity to build and strengthen professional relationships with within the company while developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support a successful and rewarding career in insurance.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in risk management, finance administration, business administration or a related discipline
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment while maintaining a positive, motivated and proactive approach
• Skill in strategic and critical thinking with the ability to evaluate information, identify opportunities and develop thoughtful solutions
• Interest in, and curiosity about, the insurance industry, with a strong desire to learn and grow professionally
• Skill in written, verbal and interpersonal communications with the ability to build effective relationships across the organization
• Ability to perform high-quality work while demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment and accountability
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and function specific software
