Intern Program Overview

Builders’ Internship Program provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience and an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of the insurance industry. Interns work on real business projects, contribute to organizational goals, and gain exposure to various areas of the company.

Throughout the program, interns have opportunities to connect with leaders and professionals across the organization, build a strong professional network, and learn from experienced colleagues. 

The program also includes professional development sessions, networking events, learning opportunities, and collaborative projects designed to enhance skills, broaden industry knowledge, and prepare interns for future career success.

Position Summary

The Underwriting Intern will gain hands-on experience in commercial property and liability insurance while developing a foundation in the fundamentals of the Underwriting function. The role provides an opportunity to learn how Underwriters evaluate business operations, assess potential hazards and exposures, and apply sound judgment to develop accurate, competitive, and appropriate premiums.

Through structured training and on-the-job experience, the Intern will apply Underwriting guidelines and predictive analytics tools to evaluate and service policies, respond to customer inquiries, process endorsements, and support effective policy management. 

The Intern will also have opportunities to build and strengthen professional relationships with policyholders and agent partners while developing skills that support a successful career in insurance.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in risk management, business administration, sales or a related discipline
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment while maintaining a positive, motivated and proactive approach
• Skill in strategic and critical thinking with the ability to evaluate information, identify opportunities and develop thoughtful solutions
• Interest in, and curiosity about, the insurance industry, with a strong desire to learn and grow professionally
• Skill in written, verbal and interpersonal communications with the ability to build effective relationships across the organization
• Ability to perform high-quality work while demonstrating professionalism, sound judgment and accountability
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and function specific software
