<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:115%;">The purpose of this role is to provide strategic clinical leadership to the Occupational Health (OH) Service across C-Care. The Occupational Health Doctor plays a pivotal role in promoting, protecting, and monitoring the health and wellbeing of all employees by delivering expert occupational health advice and interventions.</p><p style="text-align:justify;line-height:115%;">The role contributes to regulatory compliance, workforce resilience, and the creation of a safe and healthy working environment aligned with healthcare best practices and C-Care’s patient safety commitments.</p><p style="line-height:115%;"><br></p><p style="line-height:115%;"><strong>Main Duties/Responsibilities</strong></p><div><strong>New Employee Health Assessment &amp; Follow up’s</strong></div><ul><li>Conduct pre-employment medicals and issue "Fitness for Work" certifications for all new employees</li><li>Provide clinical advice to management on workplace adjustments for employees with health conditions</li><li>Promote awareness of health and wellbeing initiatives during the onboarding process</li></ul><div><strong>Immunisation programmes</strong></div><ul><li>Oversee and ensure the delivery of a comprehensive immunisation programme</li><li>Collaborate with the Occupational Health Nurse to monitor vaccine coverage and manage follow-up requirements</li></ul><div><strong>Medical Surveillance</strong></div><ul><li>Conduct medical surveillance for employees exposed to specific occupational health risks (e.g. infectious diseases, hazardous substances)</li><li>Manage and advise on post-exposure treatment pathways, including PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) where indicated</li><li>Support infection control measures and refer to appropriate specialists when required</li></ul><div><strong>Clinical Governance, Risks and Compliance</strong></div><ul><li>Interpret legislation and translate it into clear operational and clinical policies</li><li>Develop, review, and implement evidence-based occupational health protocols in line with CHKS, local legal standards</li><li>Lead or participate in internal audits and inspections to ensure full compliance with OH standards and regulatory requirements</li></ul><div><strong>General Occupational Health advice and return to work support</strong></div><ul><li>Advise management on recurrent short- or long-term sickness absence cases, including capability assessments</li><li>Lead return-to-work planning and rehabilitation of employees following illness or injury</li><li>Provide independent medical opinions on workplace injuries, ill-health retirement, or medical incapacity cases</li><li>Support HR during disciplinary or grievance processes requiring medical input</li></ul><div><strong>Training Awareness and Wellbeing promotion</strong></div><ul><li>Deliver education and awareness sessions on key occupational health issues (e.g. ergonomics, stress management, safe handling)</li><li>Champion mental health and employee wellbeing initiatives, in alignment with the corporate wellbeing strategy</li><li>Support the Health &amp; Safety team in promoting a culture of prevention and care</li></ul><div><strong>Management and Leadership</strong></div><ul><li>Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to the Occupational Health Unit</li><li>Assess service capacity and resource needs to support strategic planning and service development</li><li>Collaborate with HR, H&amp;S, Counselling, and external partners to deliver an integrated Health &amp; Wellbeing service</li><li>Monitor and report on OH service KPIs, quality indicators, and staff satisfaction</li><li>Contribute to group-wide Health &amp; Safety Committees and incident reviews, as applicable</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Qualifications</strong></div><ul><li>Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent)</li><li>Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health or equivalent (e.g.
Diploma or MSc in Occupational Health/Medicine)</li></ul><div><strong>Experience</strong></div><ul><li>Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience post-registration</li><li>At least 2 years of experience in occupational health, preferably within a hospital or large organization would be an advantage</li><li>Experience conducting fitness-for-duty assessments, health surveillance, and managing return-to-work programs</li><li>Familiarity with workplace health risk assessments and compliance reporting</li><li>Knowledge of local occupational health laws and regulations (e.g.
Workers’ Rights Act, OSH standards in Mauritius)</li></ul>
