Perfusionist (Medical Services)

The role

ensures that patients’ circulatory and respiratory functions are maintained and supported throughout surgery, in collaboration with the surgical and anaesthesia teams.</p><div><br></div><div><strong><span style="color: rgb(40, 50, 78);"><u>Key

Responsibilities:

</u></span></strong></div><div><br></div><ul><li>Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine and related equipment during open-heart surgery and other procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.</li><li>Manage extracorporeal circulation to maintain the patient’s physiological and metabolic needs.</li><li>Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot perfusion equipment, ensuring readiness and safety.</li><li>Administer blood products, medications, and fluids via the perfusion circuit as required.</li><li>Monitor and record physiological parameters such as blood flow, blood gases, and temperature during procedures.</li><li>Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes.</li><li>Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols.</li><li>Participate in training, research, and continuous professional development activities7</li></ul><div><br></div><div><span style="color: rgb(40, 50, 78);"><strong><u>Qualitifications and Experience</u></strong></span></div><div><br></div><ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Perfusion Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution.</li><li>Registration with the relevant professional council (where applicable).</li><li>Minimum 3 - 5years of clinical experience in cardiac perfusion; experience in both adult and/or paediatric cardiac surgery will be an advantage.</li><li>Strong technical and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Ability to remain calm, precise, and focused under pressure.</li><li>Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.</li></ul>
