Electrical Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the technical lead and equipment owner for plant electrical systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
Develop, implement, and support electrical system modifications to improve safety, reliability, and performance.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
Update electrical drawings, system descriptions, and related technical records as needed.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and utility/substation personnel to support equipment maintenance and operational needs.
Lead or support the design, testing, commissioning, and documentation of plant electrical projects.
Support equipment reliability initiatives, root cause analyses, and predictive maintenance programs.
Assist with spare parts management, equipment selection, procurement activities, and lifecycle planning.
Support environmental compliance initiatives and monitoring systems.
Ensure compliance with applicable NERC, cybersecurity, and plant operating requirements.
Provide technical and planning support during planned outages, forced outages, startup activities, and emergency response situations.
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of power generation experience preferred; equivalent industrial electrical engineering experience will be considered.
• Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power systems and industrial controls.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, control logic, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to effectively interact with union employees, contractors, vendors, and plant leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Five (5) or more years of engineering experience in power generation, heavy industrial manufacturing, refining, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments.
• Experience supporting coal-fired, gas-fired, or other utility-scale power generation facilities.

Technical Knowledge

Experience with the following is preferred:

• Power transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), batteries, and power distribution systems.
• Protective relays, current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), and electrical protection schemes.
• Low and Medium Voltage VFDs
• Electrical system studies, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and industrial safety practices.
• NERC reliability standards and power industry compliance programs.

Working Conditions

This position is based at operating power generation facilities and requires a blend of office and field work. The Electrical Engineer will routinely work in industrial environments around energized equipment, rotating machinery, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions.

The successful candidate must be able to:

• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection, and other PPE as required.
• Work safely around energized electrical equipment, hazardous materials, chemicals, and industrial machinery.
• Lift and carry materials or equipment as necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
• Work outside normal business hours to support scheduled outages, forced outages, troubleshooting activities, and emergency situations.
