Position Summary
Capital Waste Services is seeking a highly dependable HQ Relief Driver to provide operational support and route coverage across our locations throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. This position serves as a critical resource for the organization, filling in during driver shortages, vacations, leaves, peak service periods, new contract startups, and other operational needs. The ideal candidate is a safe, professional CDL driver who enjoys travelling, adapts quickly to new environments, and is committed to delivering exceptional service while supporting teams across multiple locations.
Essential Duties
- and Responsibilities Safely operate collection vehicles in accordance with company policies, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
- Provide route coverage and operational support at Capital Waste Services locations throughout the Southeast region.
- Perform residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal waste collection duties as assigned.
- Operate multiple truck types, including Front End Loaders, Automated Side Loaders, Rear Loaders, Roll-Off Trucks, and other specialized equipment as needed .
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete all required documentation.
- Maintain accurate route information, vehicle inspection records, and service documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, mechanics, and local operations teams.
- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a professional appearance and attitude.
- Report safety concerns, accidents, incidents, or equipment issues immediately.
- Assist with training, mentoring, or operational support when assigned.
- Comply with all company safety, environmental, and operational policies.
- Qualifications Required Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Acceptable driving record and ability to meet insurability requirements.
- Ability to pass DOT drug screening, physical, and background screening requirements.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends and holidays as business needs require.
- Strong safety mindset and commitment to operational excellence.
- Preferred Waste industry, transportation, construction, utility, or heavy equipment operating experience.
- Experience operating multiple vehicle types.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle inspection requirements.

Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb in and out of vehicles multiple times throughout the day.

- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Travel Requirements This position requires extensive travel (up to 100%) throughout the Capital Waste Services operating region, including: South Carolina North Carolina Georgia Tennessee Florida Company-paid travel accommodations, transportation, and approved business expenses will be provided in accordance with company policy.
