    Workplace Type: Onsite

At Capstan Medical, we’re building one of the most exciting and innovative companies in medtech—developing a first-of-its-kind robotic platform for minimally invasive heart valve treatment. Our team combines surgical robotics, catheter-based delivery, and next-generation implants to transform complex procedures into safer, lower-stress solutions for patients and clinicians alike. As a highly collaborative, hands-on team, we move fast, wear multiple hats, and believe the best ideas can come from anyone.

Based in Santa Cruz, our unique workspace blends cutting-edge Bay Area innovation with a lifestyle-driven environment near trails, beaches, and open space—creating the perfect place to do meaningful, career-defining work.

    Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Equipment Technician to join our team at Capstan Medical, a fast-growing medical device company. This individual will own the maintenance, calibration, and preventive care of all equipment within our equipment system, ensuring reliability, compliance, and readiness to support manufacturing and R&D activities. The Senior Equipment Technician will play a critical role in keeping production running smoothly, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement of our equipment management program.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of manufacturing and laboratory equipment.
    • Partner with equipment owners, engineers, and suppliers to resolve equipment issues quickly and effectively.
    • Own the equipment calibration and preventive maintenance (PM) program, ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and regulatory requirements.
    • Schedule and perform calibrations and PMs in accordance with equipment specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and quality standards.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment records within the equipment management system (e.g., calibration certificates, service logs, PM schedules).
    • Ensure all equipment meets operational readiness and compliance requirements.
    • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, extend lifecycle, and reduce downtime.
    • Support root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs) related to equipment.
    • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO 13485, and FDA regulations.
    • Ensure safe working practices and support a culture of safety within the operations team.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering technology) or equivalent hands-on experience.
    • 5+ years of experience maintaining, calibrating, and repairing manufacturing or laboratory equipment in a regulated industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech preferred).
    • Strong knowledge of calibration methods, preventive maintenance practices, and equipment documentation systems.
    • Experience working within GMP and ISO 13485 quality systems.
    • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams.

    Why Join Us:

    • At Capstan Medical, you’ll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the reliability of critical equipment that supports life-changing medical devices. You’ll join a collaborative team, work in a dynamic environment, and contribute to a mission-driven company improving patient outcomes.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, and disability, or other legally protected status.
