This position supports the mission and work of the Y by delivering safe, developmentally appropriate beginner-level gymnastics instruction. Assists with class set-up, demonstrations, positive behavior guidance, and parent communication under the direction of senior staff, following YMCA policies and USA Gymnastics progressions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with participants and families.
- Assist with class set-up/breakdown; maintain clean, organized, and safe spaces; perform basic equipment checks.
- Teach foundational skills and shapes on floor and introductory apparatus using approved progressions and spotting within training level.
- Maintain active, visual supervision; reinforce rules and safety expectations; respond to incidents and complete required reports.
- Support positive communication with parents/guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and participant progress.
- Follow YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and mandated reporting/abuse-prevention protocols.
- Prior experience working with children in recreation or athletics preferred; gymnastics background a plus.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach entry-level skills safely; learns and applies USA Gymnastics progressions.
- Effective communicator and positive role model.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain within Association timeframe.
