Urology Surgery Center, Nashville TN has an immediate opening for a Certified Surgical Technician to join their dynamic surgery center team!
The OR Technician is responsible for performing the duties of a OR scrub technician in the OR suite. The OR Technician also assists in the operative procedure by preparation of equipment and sterile supplies.
- Demonstrates competency upon hire in performing all related job tasks/functions.
- Demonstrates cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Maintains certification in BLS.
- Cross-trains in other Center areas to serve as staff team member.
- Working knowledge and comfort with computer use.
- Maintains regular attendance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Functions as a scrub technician in the Operating Room Suite.
- Assists with gowning and gloving other members of the surgical team.
- Assists with the preparation of the Operating Room Suite procedures.
- Assists with skin preparations and with draping of patients.
- Assists with application of dressings and moving patients as needed.
- Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment.
- Knows and practices the principles and techniques of sterile technique.
- Handles specimens in accordance with procedures.
- Removes drapes at end of procedure, cleanses the patient of prep solution and applies dressing as needed.
- Cleans instruments and equipment after use and returns to proper area for storage or processing.
- Respects patients’ right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Continuously updates physician preference cards as needed.
- Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
- Participates as delegated in various committee functions.
- Assists with housekeeping duties as necessary to provide a safe environment.
- Participates in sponge, instrument and needle count with the circulating nurse as deemed necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and use autoclaves, sonic cleaner and rinser / dryer.
- Attends required in-service education, meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies.
- Updates knowledge in surgical techniques and related nursing care.
- Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual responsibility.
- Assists in the maintenance of the system for defining Center’s supply/stock needs, utilizing par level method.
- Participates in Center-sponsored community events/marketing activities as requested.
- Performs all other duties assigned.
- Demonstrates understanding of personal responsibility and activities related to the OSHA programs including hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens.
- Directly responsible for identifying and reporting adverse or dangerous situations without fear of Reprisal.
Job Knowledge
- Knowledgeable in fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and maintenance and care of equipment.
- Basic knowledge of surgical procedures, needs and steps in use of materials.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Successful completion of Operating Room Technician course or prior Operating Room Technician experiences.
- Certification in BLS.
- Completion of Certification for ORT/ST preferred.
- Prefer two years’ previous employment in related field.
