Chief Building Inspector
Performs a variety of routine and complex technical and supervisory work in plan review of commercial and residential construction projects; oversees daily activities staff.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
· Examining general framing and structure of buildings to ensure that corners are tied in place, that trusses are tied down and set at proper distances, that floor joists are set at right distances and proper spans, and that bridging is put up and in place
· Performing electrical inspections examining for right size of panels, correct uses and sizes of wire, correct number of circuits, correct numbers, and location of switches, etc. to insure that adopted national codes are adhered to
· Performing plumbing inspections of all plumbing fixtures examining for vent size, grade, and size of pipe, and examines all joints for proper sealing to ensure that there are no leaks, etc.
· Maintaining records of building inspection activity
· Assisting in researching problems and complaint
· Performing plan review of residential construction
· Leading and training inspection staff
· Preparing and overseeing building permits and related documents for clerical processing
· Responding to after hour emergency call outs to damaged structure
· Investigating buildings damaged by fire to determine safety
· Assisting in administering the permitting function, including application processing, fee assessment and collection and permit issuance
The work environment will require the employee to:
· Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places
· Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or airborne particles

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
· Five (5) years of experience working at a municipality and have prior plan review and/or inspection experience; or
· Any equivalent combination of related education and experience
Special Requirements:
· Must have a valid Texas driver’s license within ninety (90) days of hire
· Must have a valid driver’s license by date-of-hire
· Must possess a Texas State Plumbing Inspector license, residential energy code certification, commercial energy code inspector certification, or ability to obtain them by hire date
· Must obtain either the residential or commercial building inspector certification within six (6) months from the date of hire and the other certificate within twelve (12) months from the date of hire
· Must obtain other licenses or certifications as required by law to perform the job
