POSITION SUMMARY
Provide a safe, therapeutic environment by planning, organizing and implementing nursing care to meet the specific needs of the patient in collaboration with the treatment team. Appropriately support and implement Center’s Treatment Philosophy of Dignity, Respect and Understanding when caring for the patient. The nurse shall demonstrate initiative, proficiency and an attitude that contributes to effective teamwork and functioning of the therapeutic milieu. Expected to learn the basic knowledge and skills of Collaborative Problem Solving.

EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program
- Two years experience in psychiatric setting, or four years med/surg
- Child/adolescent psychiatry experience preferred
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Licensed Vocational Nurse, State of Texas
- First Aide, CPR
- SAMA
THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Monitor patient and implement treatment plan for assigned patient groups ensuring patient safety
- Demonstrate competency in Collaborative Problem Solving core areas within established time frames:
- Introductory concepts and attitudes
- Triggers and Pathways
- Plans A, B and C
- Milieu Assessment Plans
- Provide age appropriate communication, activities, interventions of assigned groups of 4-5 patients without assistance, under supervision
- Provide optimum nursing care to patients to include implementation of orders, scheduling appointments and communication of test results
- Accurate completion of documentation prior to the end of the shift
- Demonstrates solid understanding of psychiatric medications and provides education to patients and families.
- Demonstrates accurate administration of medication, as needed
- Utilize materials, records and/or equipment properly and economically while performing assigned duties
- Provide for the performance of therapeutic measures prescribed and delegated by medical authority with the scope of LVN practice
- Instruct and direct the MHW to include orientation and training
- Utilizes least restrictive interventions and demonstrates ability to participate in a crisis team
- Assist the RN with the clinical and medical needs of the patients, including data collection
- Attend and participate in nursing meetings and PI activities
